ok - not really a comment on what you wrote - more of a comment on the date. Um, how did you post that in November when it is still October? LOL.
BTW - my name is Jennifer, and I was just stoping by to see if you updated, I am in the process of going through your old blog posts, but I have added you to my blog roll and wanted to say hey!

Thanks for your informative blog. I'm driving down for several months soon and Chacala is one of the places I want to spend some time in this year, and will be looking for a nice apartment. Your info is a great help.

Just a note to tell you that we flew out of PV on the 14th and the plywood wall was not there anymore and the terminal was open to the bathrooms and you were able to get from one end to the other without going outside. I think that whatever they were doing has been finished enough for them to remove the wall....hopefully permanently as it was very inconvenient.

Andee - I read on LaGringas site about your passing, and it saddens me more than you know. You always had sweet and supportive words for me, and you made me smile when I was down.

You will be missed.

Andee passed away suddenly on January 13, 2008.

Andee was my friend here in Chacala, and her sudden passing has shocked me and much of this community. Among other things, Andee was a vital link between Canadian and American tourists and the landladies with their rooftop rentals, who had no bank, phones, or internet (or even English!). In fact, she helped me find the place I am living in for the winter.

Andee was always around. I liked running into her on my walks and joining her around town as she passed around rental deposits and schedules to her landladies, greeted returning travelers, and talked with locals. I met many wonderful people here that I never would have because of Andee.

She used my computer sometimes during her “broken computer drought,” and always dropped by when she was in the neighborhood. Once her new Mac arrived, I was disappointed, because she was home more, and out less. We e-mailed each other from three blocks apart! We sometimes had our disagreements, and I am happy that the last time we were together, I was helping her help a landlord (stuck fax machine).

Today I went up to her patio kitchen to leave a flower or two, and a note for her son Eric who is coming to take care of things, and it looked just like it always did when we were sitting around the table, talking about not much, and staring out at the ocean. But she was not there. It was like looking at a very familiar painting, and then realizing the frame was there but the painting had disappeared.

Andee, may your journey home be swift and filled with love. I will miss you.

Your friend,

Allan Hardman

My family and I just got back in town last night and heard that Andee passed away on Sunday. Although I only knew her for a few months, I feel like I have lost a good friend.
We moved to Chacala in November after buying our in-the-process-of-being-built home the previous December. We have had a meal, shared some books, and had a few casual talks with her. But through her blog, she made us feel like we were fast friends.
My condolences go to her family and friends.
We will miss her.
